The Ultimate Price Guide to Hospital Packages in Singapore

Expecting a baby is a very exciting time for new parents. On top of ensuring that we have all the necessary newborn essentials prepared, the costs of delivering a baby, the finances related to mommy and baby’s hospital stay are also at the top of the list of every expecting parent.

Here at My First Love, we have painstakingly put together the maternity price packages of majority of the private hospitals in Singapore for you! We got one of our pregnant MFL ambassadors to go undercover, and sent her to all the maternity tours at these hospitals. The below are her thoughts and views after the sessions, and are her personal opinions. They in no way represent the views of My First Love.

Disclaimer: All these research and maternity tours were done before the Covid-19 period when tours were still allowed. All the prices stated are of hospital room and board, and do not include doctors’ fees.

1. Thomson Medical Hospital

In my opinion, Thomson Medical Hospital comes across as one of the more affordable private hospitals to be delivering in Singapore, so imagine my shock when I discovered that its maternity package for a single bed was actually pricier than all the other hospitals except for the 2 Mount Elizabeths: Orchard & Novena.

What I liked about Thomson Medical was really how the hospital is being lauded as a maternity hospital, hence all the patients admitted there are either for delivery or gynaecological related issues, and are therefore all women. It gives the impression of specialization, as all the personnel working there are trained to deal specifically with prenatal or postpartum mommies, and gynaecological related patients.

The one thing that was a real bummer for me about Thomson Medical was that I found their wards rather small, compared to the other hospitals. Each ward was also rather close to each other, and I would think it can tend to get quite noisy. (Unfortunately, the hospital was rather strict about taking pictures during the tour, so I did not manage to get any.) Another thing that could be improved on would be the parking there. It was an ABSOLUTE nightmare. They should really do something about expanding their carpark.

2. Mount Alvernia Hospital

After visiting Mount Alvernia, it made me feel a little wistful that I would not be delivering my baby there, as it was not one of the hospitals my gynaecologist is based at. There were so many things to like about the hospital, that I have no idea where to start.

For one, upon visiting the wards, even though Mount Alvernia is also a maternity hospital focused specifically on delivery, it gave an atmosphere of peace and serenity. The walkway separating the wards was also bright and spacious. I think it is important for a postpartum mother, who just brought life into this world, to have ample rest in a peaceful environment. The hospital was also very new and clean. This was a major plus for me! Do not even get me started on the food selection available at Mount Alvernia! Unlike most of the other hospitals, who have only 1 or max 2 eateries, Alvernia boasts 6 different eateries! So for mommies who get tired of the food served in-room, you know you have many other choices downstairs!

Here are some photos of the hospital I managed to take during my tour!

And of course, not forgetting what came in their maternity tour goodie bag!

3. Mount Elizabeth Orchard Hospital

Mount Elizabeth Orchard Hospital is one of the pricier options when it comes to delivery in Singapore, and with good reason, when you consider its long and reputable history. However, the interior does look a tad old fashioned and worn out. I would just attach the photos to let them speak for themselves.

The Suite

The Single Room

What I liked most about the hospital was the open garden on the 4th floor, where the maternity ward is situated. It is a nice way for mommies to get in touch with nature even if it's for a short while, just for a mini respite.

And last but not least, what was given in their maternity tour goodie bag.

4. Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital

And now we come to the newest hospital in this list, and coincidentally was also the hospital I was due to deliver at. Unfortunately, my baby could not wait till I did the tour for this hospital before coming into this world, hence I delivered before I had a chance to attend the scheduled tour.

However, being an actual patient here gave me a chance to be able to give you the most objective review about the place. I have to say that my stay at Mount Elizabeth Novena hospital for both my pregnancies was extremely peaceful. Despite the ward being totally booked out, you rarely hear the sound of any crying baby or the usual hustle and bustle of a hospital. It gave me plenty of opportunity to recuperate fully. I was also very impressed by their team of nurses. Each and every single one of them were polite, attentive and tended to my needs very well. And so yes, it is the most expensive hospital to deliver in Singapore, but the value you obtain far outweighs the price you pay.

Sorry, no photos of Mount E. Novena too because I was bed ridden after a caesarean section, and was immobilized.

5. Gleneagles Hospital

Gleneagles Hospital is another on the list of Parkway Pantai Group of hospitals, which boasts a long history, and a reputation that precedes it. It is one of the few hospitals with quite a few suites, hence if you are looking to stay in one of the bigger wards with more facilities, you have more options.

Gleneagles hospital is also one of the few with more food options, and is the only private hospital in this list that houses a food court.

With regard to the goodie bag from Gleneagles Hospital, you can just refer to the above image of the one from Mount Elizabeth Orchard, because it was identical!

6. Parkway East Hospital

Parkway East Hospital is the lesser known of the Parkway Pantai Group of hospitals. It is the only hospital strategically located in the East side of Singapore, and you will be surprised to know that it is priced the most affordable across all the private hospitals in this article. However, that does not translate to less in terms of service and deliverables.

Sadly, I was also denied photos during this tour, hence there are none, save for the picture of their maternity tour goodie bag.
All figures stated are to the best of our knowledge at the time of writing. I hope you find them useful and they help you to make good sound decisions with your finances!
